About me and my paintings

Hi, this is Shuwen (b. 1993). Nice to meet you.

Born and raised in China, in 2015 I moved to the Netherlands. I’m a full time, self-taught artist who paints intuitively.

I start each painting by playing with colors and shapes. I don’t plan what to paint next, each stroke is the response to the previous one. If I cannot find a right brush for the next shape coming up to my mind, I use my fingertips to put it down. I let the sub-consciousness take the initiation.

I want to share this freedom with you.

The meaning of creating for me is not for the highlight moment when the painting is completed, but for every moment when each stroke is taken. The process of painting leads me to myself, and I want to share this freedom with you. I know that you will see it on the canvas.
